Lightbulb Chess Forum PGN Viewer (Manual)

To use the PGN viewer to display chess games on this forum, you have to wrap the PGN data in your post in [PGN] tags. In the advanced editor window you can find a little icon on the left side of the tag bar which creates those tags when you click on it. You can first select the text you want to wrap in those tags and then you click on that icon.

Example of a PGN chess game:

    Code:
[Event "IBM Kasparov vs. Deep Blue Rematch"]
    [Site "New York, NY USA"]
    [Date "1997.05.11"]
    [Round "6"]
    [White "Deep Blue"]
    [Black "Kasparov, Garry"]
    [Result "1-0"]

    1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Nd7 5.Ng5 Ngf6
    6.Bd3 e6 7.N1f3 h6 8.Nxe6 Qe7 9.O-O fxe6 10.Bg6+ Kd8 {Kasparov shakes his head}
    11.Bf4 b5 12.a4 Bb7 13.Re1 Nd5 14.Bg3 Kc8 15.axb5 cxb5 16.Qd3 Bc6 17.Bf5 exf5
    18.Rxe7 Bxe7 19.c4 1-0

How this PGN game will be displayed when it is wrapped into [PGN] tags:

[Event "IBM Kasparov vs. Deep Blue Rematch"]
    [Site "New York, NY USA"]
    [Date "1997.05.11"]
    [Round "6"]
    [White "Deep Blue"]
    [Black "Kasparov, Garry"]
    [Result "1-0"]

    1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Nd7 5.Ng5 Ngf6
    6.Bd3 e6 7.N1f3 h6 8.Nxe6 Qe7 9.O-O fxe6 10.Bg6+ Kd8 {Kasparov shakes his head}
    11.Bf4 b5 12.a4 Bb7 13.Re1 Nd5 14.Bg3 Kc8 15.axb5 cxb5 16.Qd3 Bc6 17.Bf5 exf5
    18.Rxe7 Bxe7 19.c4 1-0

The PGN meta tags that are displayed by the viewer are:
Site, Event, Date, Round, White, Black, Result. Everything else is ignored.

Few more details about the pgn4web tool.

You can interact with the chessboard using the keyboard and clicking with the mouse on the chessboard squares. If you click on the top right square (H8 if White is on bottom) an help file popup shows more details.

The chessboard allows for games starting from non-standard positions using the FEN tag, for example:

    Code:
    [White "white to move"]
    [SetUp "1"]
    [FEN "rn2r1k1/ppq2pb1/2pp2pp/8/2PQn1b1/1PN2NP1/PB3PBP/3RR1K1 w - - 0 1"]

    1. Qxg7 Kxg7 2. Nd5 Kf8 3. Nxc7

    [White "white to move"]
    [SetUp "1"]
    [FEN "rn2r1k1/ppq2pb1/2pp2pp/8/2PQn1b1/1PN2NP1/PB3PBP/3RR1K1 w - - 0 1"]

    1. Qxg7 Kxg7 2. Nd5 Kf8 3. Nxc7

The chessboard also allows for more than one game being shown, with a dropdown menu to pick your choice:

    Code:
    [Event "World championship"]
    [Site "Moscow URS"]
    [Date "1985.10.15"]
    [Round "16"]
    [White "Karpov"]
    [Black "Kasparov"]
