Thread: Chess-forum.com vs. ChessForums.org (Correspondence Game)

Default Chess-forum.com vs. ChessForums.org (Correspondence Game)

Hey guys, I'm a member of both Chess-forum and ChessForums so listen up.

CF was challenged by C-F to a correspondence match. CF accepts your challenge. Perseus, one of the mods of CF, has made sure enough people are in for the duration of the game.

I've discussed the conditions for the match with the other members and we've reached the following consensus:

    a) 1 move per month. If it's your turn and you haven't made a move by 31 days, you lose automatically. This applies to both teams.

    b) The game will take years, not weeks or months. Are you guys in it for the long haul?

    c) Perseus and I made sure there were enough posters to keep the discussion going. By the way, I'm not a moderator over there, just a very prolific poster. Does your forum have enough posters too?

    d) Do you agree that engine use should be strictly prohibited?

    e) As for communication between the two sides, well I'm the middle man here posting on both forums.

    f) CF has White, C-F has Black. So far we'll probably play 1.e4 but you never know. Might change our mind.

Do you agree to these conditions?

    Hey,

I have posted on ChessForums.org to initiate this duell, so in representation of Chess-Forum.com I will give you our moves.

    a) 1 move per month. If it's your turn and you haven't made a move by 31 days, you lose automatically. This applies to both teams.

    b) The game will take years, not weeks or months. Are you guys in it for the long haul?
    Thats fine!

    c) Perseus and I made sure there were enough posters to keep the discussion going. By the way, I'm not a moderator over there, just a very prolific poster. Does your forum have enough posters too?
I hope we will have them over the long run and that people will be interested in this game. I will talk to some good players and friends to get some profound help! In any case, I am a good player as well and will make sure the game will continue!

    d) Do you agree that engine use should be strictly prohibited?
I suggested playing with engines, because you can't really check if people are using engines or not. Since we all learn much more when we don't use engines, I am also happy when engines are not allowed.

    e) As for communication between the two sides, well I'm the middle man here posting on both forums.
I am the middleman from this forum then!

    f) CF has White, C-F has Black. So far we'll probably play 1.e4 but you never know. Might change our mind.
Why do you have White? It's a big advantage in such a high quality game The decision who has White and who has Black should be based on some random event (prediction of the result of a soccer game, or predicting the Dow Jones Industrial Average in a few days or something like this). What do you think about this?

This will be a very long and epic game

To choose the colours: We could predict the move a certain chess game will end (not the result, just the number of the move)! The one who is closer, gets White!
Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.

Just replied to you on the Chess Forums thread.

I'll let you decide on an event, and then I'll make a prediction. Unless another member beats me to it.

By the way I like David's idea.

I will choose a chessgame that will be played soon. Every forum will predict the number of the last move in this game (e.g. 35 or 56). One prediction for each forum. The forum with the most accurate prediction (+/- moves) gets White!

I just need some time now to figure out a good tournament chess game.

Okay, I found a nice tournament and a good game (a Magnus Carlsen game) we can take for this prediction-contest:

    Tournament: Kings Tournament 2010 (14th - 25th June).
Game: First game of Magnus Carlsen in this tournament (against whoever he has to play).

Meister and I give our move number prediction before 14th June. That's okay?

One move a month seems pretty slow, but on second thought many top level CC events last years.
One thing I would suggest is that for a move to be considered, the person suggesting it must state a brief reason why they are recommending the move. Too often "suggestions" are long string of moves that are clearly engine analysis. If someone can’t offer some kind of explanation as to why they are recommending a move, it's probably not theirs.

If you guys all want the time control to be faster, tell me and I'll discuss it with Chess Forums.

Personally I think a minimum of one move per two weeks is required. I chose one month to account for any periods of relative inactivity on either Forum.
